Despite friends telling me stories of how crowded Prague gets during the summer, I still wanted to visit. I had a couple of free days before flying off to Northern Ireland, so I booked a last-minute hostel bed and a FlixBus ticket to Prague.
Once I arrived in the city and dropped my belongings off in the hostel, I was ready to explore. The weather during my first day was amazing. It was sunny and warm, with just enough breeze to keep things from being too hot.
While strolling the streets of Prague, I noticed that the overcrowding was concentrated in certain areas like Old Town Square, the Lennon Wall, Prague Castle and the Charles Bridge. I spent just a short time here, before venturing off to other parts of the city. With a few new friends, we made our way to Lesser Town, where we had a much more authentic experience of the city (without any crowds!!!).
We spent the rest of the day getting lost in the streets of the city, eating tonnes of fries, and drinking too many beers and Spritz. As I contemplated ordering my nth drink, my friend Rachid reminded me that we were after all, on vacation in Prague. He then proceeded to order us two (very strong) Long Island Iced Teas, also managing to get us both free shots. I didn’t question it.
